Off Road Parts
off road parts question by Jake S: What vehicles are good for off road driving?
I asked this question already but I think maybe I was a little vague on exactly what I’m looking for.
So I am in the market for a new vehicle (not pre owned) and I am leaning more toward wanting to get back into an SUV. (I used to have an FJ Cruiser and now have a Corolla).
I have a very busy life and am going to school part time while working full time in a great job with great pay so the money isn’t really an object however I am not the type to buy something fancy like a land rover knowing it might get beat up in the woods.
When I am not busy with school and work I like to get away from the city and go up into the mountains and relax. I haven’t been out there in a while both due to schedule and my corolla is not really up to the challenge.
So basically I need a vehicle that is both a good vehicle for daily use for work, school, groceries etc… as well as able to handle the dirt roads up in the mountains that I like to escape to.
As far as the dirt roads and mountains go, they aren’t huge hills and large bumps and drops that would need a hardcore off roading specific vehicle (someone mentioned in my last question that i wouldn’t need an FJ cruiser or Jeep wrangler for what i had described but im still not opposed to an fj again i loved it when i had it.)
If you could give me some advice on some vehicles I might want to check out, that would be great. Also if you have any commentary or experience in driving/owning any of the following vehicles please tell me what you think as ive been considering looking at some of these vehicles.
Toyota FJ Cruiser
NIssan X-Terra
Toyota Highlander
Subaru Forrester
Subaru Outback
Subaru Impreza Hatchback
Jeep Compass (i didnt mention the wrangler because they don’t have the kind of cargo space i need and i don’t like the 4 door version of them)
Toyota Rav-4 (someone mentioned to check it out in last post but not sure about it.)
Thank you guys so much!

I would say a Toyota 4Runner is your best shot. They are really nice and last forever.
