First it needs to be four wheel drive. Both axles need to be some type of limited slip differential. If you go to taller tires then you need to change out both differentials to a matching set of gears.

Here is a scenario that is common place. Your driving off road in 4 wheel high with your foot to the floor(so there is no drop in acceleration) . You come across a bump and the back axle rebounds. The rear wheels are airborne spining before coming back down. What in the transfer case makes up for the difference in speed between the two axles?

Most older transfer cases drive the front and rear shafts at the same speed. That is why 4 wheel drive was not meant for dry roads. Dry roads were too hard on them.
More recent transfer cases usually have limited slip (positrack clutches?) in them that drive the slower shaft while letting the faster shaft over run it. As soon as the faster shaft drops its speed then it gets driven too.

Few destinations offer better weather. You’re right September and early October are risky for tropical storms. Go in Late February or Early March to catch the whales and avoid the heat of summer.

I have an ’06 Nissan Titan and I am looking at the new GMC for better gas mileage, better paint and overall long-term reliability. I have the truck trunk tool box and they appear to have gone out of business. Is there anything comporable. Also, I am very undecided about the trucks, anyone own either one and have any good advice for me. My nissan only has about 8K miles. I have added step bars, 20″ crome wheels and off road tires and obviously the tool box. Thanks!!

Today, I used some SOS pads to clean the wheels with. But the SOS pads are too abrasive- they started to take off the coating off of the wheels. What is that coating? Is it aluminum?
There are some stubborn black spots on the wheels- they could be road debris, or tar, etc. They are extremely difficult to remove. What product or thing can I use to clean the wheels well with without scratching the wheels?

I have chrome trim rings on the wheels of my Blazer. They’re rusty and ugly, and I want to remove them. I figure they can’t be too hard to get off since one has already vanished over the winter, and a second came off when I slid off the road last week. I figure if I’m down by two, I might as well remove the other two.
Is it just a matter of prying them off? Can I just pop them off with my fingers? I just want to make sure I’m not going to ruin anything on my wheels.

It wouldn’t take a Rav 4 off-road, it’s a unibody, car-based pseudo SUV, it has no real off-road ability. Basically it’s made to keep you on the road, not to take you off it. Also AWD isn’t well suit for off-road duty, you’ll want a vehicle with a more rugged and simple part time 4WD system.

there are some good products at your local parts store, I finally bought a long handled car was brush, this allows you to get most of the hard to reach areas using lots of soap and water, for brake dust there are some excellent products you can buy that will remove it in short order, or plan to spend some time with a bucket of suds and a car wash brush, as you get the layers off (you may be there on each tire for several minutes) so its time with some type of brush, or buy one of those spray can products, I have used several there are some really good ones out there, but they are not cheap.
